You can’t upload your own photo for an Australia proof of age / photo ID card — not with IDPhotoBy, and not with any self-service tool. In New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, the standard way to get one of these cards is to apply in person, and your photo is taken on the spot by government staff at a service centre. Because no general application channel accepts a self-made or uploaded photo, IDPhotoBy does not prepare photos for an Australia proof of age card.

Australia doesn’t issue proof-of-age / photo ID cards as one national product — each state runs its own scheme, under its own name. Every state checked here converges on the same structural rule: your photo is taken by the issuing authority, in person, not supplied by you.
New South Wales (NSW Photo Card) — Transport for NSW / Service NSW tell applicants to:
“Visit a Service NSW Centre and apply in person for your Photo Card.”
and confirm:
“Your photo is taken when you're at a service centre.”
Victoria (Proof of Age card) — Service Victoria requires applicants to:
“bring your form and ID to an approved photo location”
to have the photo taken there.
Queensland (photo identification card) — the Queensland Government states:
“You can apply in person for a photo identification card at a transport and motoring customer service centre, participating…”
— naming several kinds of in-person service points; Queensland also notes: “You may need to have your photo taken when you apply for a photo identification card.”
Western Australia (WA Photo Card) — Transport WA says:
“To apply for a WA Photo Card, you’ll need to visit a DTMI service centre or regional agent in person.”
and:
“You’ll need to pay an application fee, and have your photo taken.”
The only exception is for people who genuinely can’t attend in person. NSW, for example, states:
“Eligible people who cannot attend a service centre for medical reasons may apply for a NSW Photo Card using a photo kit.”
Western Australia’s postal path opens the same way:
“You can submit your WA Photo Card Application form by post if you’re unable to have your photo taken at a DTMI service centre or regional agent because…”
— covering people with a genuine medical, remote-location, or travel reason. Where a photo size is specified for this narrow exception, states have quoted 35 mm by 45 mm — but it’s a printed, witness-certified paper photo sent in by post as part of a non-digital, eligibility-gated process, not a general online-upload channel. It isn’t something IDPhotoBy, or any online tool, can produce for you.
Apply through your own state’s service, and expect your photo to be taken there rather than supplied by you:
- New South Wales — apply for a NSW Photo Card at a Service NSW Centre; bring the required ID and staff will take your photo on the spot, following Service NSW’s own photo guidelines.
- Victoria — apply for a Proof of Age card through Service Victoria; bring your form and ID to an approved photo location to have the photo taken.
- Queensland — apply for a photo identification card in person at a transport and motoring customer service centre or another participating service point.
- Western Australia — apply for a WA Photo Card in person at a DTMI service centre or regional agent; you’ll pay the application fee and have your photo taken there.
If you have a genuine medical condition, live remotely, or are travelling interstate or overseas and truly can’t attend in person, ask your own state’s service directly about its postal / photo-kit exception — it’s handled entirely by post with a witness-certified print, not through any online tool.
One naming note: card names differ by state, and don’t always match the name used at the top of this page. NSW calls its card the “NSW Photo Card”; Victoria calls its card the “Proof of Age card”; Western Australia calls its card the “WA Photo Card”; and Queensland’s original “adult proof of age card” — the name closest to this page’s own title — was formally replaced by the “photo identification card” in April 2019 (older cards already issued remain valid). Check your own state’s current terminology when you apply.
