Need a Japan e-Visa photo online? According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the eVISA facial photo must meet this checklist. Use it before you compare your file against the latest application instructions on the official eVISA portal.

• Taken within the last six months — the photo should be recent, so it looks like you today.
• Plain, untextured background — the official rule is a plain, untextured background; IDPhotoBy places you on a clean, plain white background, which meets it.
• Whole face, centred — the entire face must be clearly centred horizontally in the frame.
• Colour photo — the image must be in colour, not black and white.
• Your own fresh photo — do not use a photo retaken from a passport, driver licence or group photograph. Shoot a new one and upload it.
• Fits the red frame — on the eVISA site the imported photo must fit inside the red rectangle outer frame; a properly cropped head-and-shoulders photo does this.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not publish a fixed print size, pixel size or background colour for the eVISA facial photo, so treat those as guidance rather than a stated rule — see the size section below.

The JAPAN eVISA states the file rules for the photo you upload, but not a fixed size:

• File format — the accepted formats are JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP or HEIC. IDPhotoBy outputs a standard JPEG (JPG), which is on that list.
