Free Hong Kong e-Passport Photo Online — Make a 1200×1600 px Digital Photo

Applying for a Hong Kong passport online? You need a Hong Kong e-passport photo online as a digital file, not a printed photo. Upload a recent photo and IDPhotoBy sizes and crops it to the digital image the Immigration Department (ImmD) accepts through its Internet and Mobile App — a JPEG of at least 1200×1600 px and 5 MB or below, on a plain white background, with the Hong Kong e-passport (online) document already selected. It is free — no payment required.

The Immigration Department sets the rules for a digital photo submitted through its Internet and Mobile App (for passport applications only). For a photo captured by digital camera, ImmD requires:

• JPEG file — the image type must be JPEG.
• At least 1200×1600 px — a minimum of 1200 pixels wide by 1600 high (a 3:4 image).
• 5 MB or below — the file size must not exceed 5 MB.
• Plain white background — a single, even white with no shadow.
• Head 32–36 mm from chin to crown — your full frontal face with clear features, centred, with sufficient headroom above your head.
• No head dress — and avoid heavy make-up and overly dark or overly light-coloured clothing.

ImmD will not accept a photo if you are not centred, have a frame across the eyes, have hair across your eyes or eyebrows, show flash reflection on the face or glasses, have a shadow, or if it is too light or too dark. As an alternative, ImmD also accepts a 600-dpi scan of a printed 40 mm × 50 mm photo — but the simplest online route is the 1200×1600 px camera image this page prepares.

• Upload a recent, well-lit photo with the tool on this page — the Hong Kong e-passport (online) document is already selected.

Hong Kong lets you submit your passport photo two ways, and it is a different file for each:
