This is the online e-Visa channel, where you upload a digital photograph with your application. It is the digital-upload channel, not the printed regular-visa photo, and the file-size limits are different — more on that below.
According to the Government of India e-Visa requirements, your digital photograph must meet this checklist. Use it before you compare your file with the latest application instructions.
- Full face, front view, eyes open — look straight at the camera with both eyes open.
- Without spectacles — take the e-Visa photo without glasses.
- Full head shown — centre your head in the frame and show the full head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin.
- Plain light-coloured or white background — even, with no shadows on the face or on the background.
- No borders — the photograph must have no border around it.
- Recent photograph — use a current, front-facing photo that looks like you today.
The Government of India e-Visa states three things about the digital file: it must be a JPEG, the height and width must be equal (a square photo), and the file size must be between 10 KB and 1 MB. India does not publish a fixed pixel size — only that the image is square.
IDPhotoBy outputs a 700×700 px square JPEG (around 57 KB in testing), which sits comfortably inside the official 10 KB–1 MB range and satisfies the square requirement. On the physical scale that is a 51×51 mm (2×2 in) square, but for the e-Visa you upload the digital file, not a print.
Watch the channel: the online e-Visa allows a file up to 1 MB. India's regular (paper) visa channel caps the digital photo at 300 KB — a different, smaller limit. Do not apply the 300 KB figure to your e-Visa upload; on this page the numbers are the e-Visa channel's.

A baby or infant e-Visa photo follows the same rules: a square photo, plain light-coloured or white background, full face with both eyes open, no shadows and no borders. Lay the child on a plain white sheet or hold them against a plain backdrop, take the shot from directly in front, then upload it and let the tool crop it to the 700×700 px square. Nothing should touch the child's face or cast a shadow.
