Looking for a photo resize for PAN card online (paperless) submission — e-KYC & e-Sign, e-Sign-scanned-based, or DSC-based? This page prepares the digital scan photo that this channel asks for — not the printed photo affixed to a paper form, and not your e-PAN certificate. Upload a recent photo and IDPhotoBy resizes and crops it to 25×35 mm (197×276 px) on a white background, within the 20 KB file-size ceiling, with the India PAN card online document already selected.

Online PAN application photo requirements

Published by Protean eGov Technologies (formerly NSDL e-Gov), the Income Tax Department's authorized PAN service provider, in its online-application scan table:

  • Size 2.5 × 3.5 cm (25×35 mm)197×276 pixels at the stated 200 DPI.
  • Resolution 200 DPI.
  • Colour photograph, JPEG format.
  • Maximum file size 20 KB — Protean states this as "Max. 20 KB."
  • White background — Protean's site states applicants should use photographs "with white background" at this size.

This table covers the DSC-based online sub-mode by name; Protean groups e-KYC & e-Sign / e-Sign-scanned-based with DSC-based as "paperless" modes but does not publish a separate table for those two, so use the same figures unless your application flow states otherwise.

PAN card photo resize online: how it works

  • Upload a recent, clear photo.
  • IDPhotoBy resizes and crops it to 25×35 mm (197×276 px) on a white background — matching the PAN card photo upload size the online form expects.
  • Preview the result against the size, background and file-size figures above.
  • Download the JPEG, kept within the 20 KB ceiling, ready to upload to the Protean online PAN portal.

Online (Protean paperless) vs print PAN photo

This page covers the digital scan photo for the paperless online application — no physical documents are sent to Protean for this channel. Printing a form and physically affixing photographs instead needs a different photo — see our India PAN card photo (print) page.

UTIITSL, the second authorized PAN operator, runs its own separate portal. Several independent tools online cite a different UTIITSL figure (commonly 213×213 px) for that portal, but we could not confirm it from any official UTIITSL source, so it is not used here — this page grounds its numbers on Protean's own published table. Applying through UTIITSL? Check UTIITSL's own portal for its current spec.

IDPhotoBy does not retouch, beautify or otherwise edit your face, and does not add or swap backgrounds as a marketed feature — nor can it guarantee Protean will accept a given upload, since that decision belongs to the operator reviewing your application. Check the official Protean/Income Tax Department application portal before submitting, as requirements can change.
