Iraq Passport Photo: Taken by the Passport Officer, Not Uploaded

Iraq's e-passport photo is taken on the spot by a Ministry of Interior passport officer — there's no file to prepare, print, or upload for this document.

If you're applying for an Iraqi passport, the photo isn't something you bring, print, or upload — it's taken on the spot by a Ministry of Interior passport officer as part of your application. Because of that, IDPhotoBy does not prepare photos for the Iraq passport: there's no applicant-supplied photo in this process for us to format. We do prepare document photos online for many other passports and visas — see the full list of what we support below.

Why you can't do this online

Iraq's current passport is an e-passport (الجواز الإلكتروني), applied for exclusively through the Ministry of Interior's own portal, epp.iq. That portal describes itself, in its own site settings, as:

الموقع الرسمي للجواز الالكتروني العراقي التابع لوزارة الداخلية العراقية.

("The official site of the Iraqi Electronic Passport, affiliated with the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.")

epp.iq's own application instructions state, for the ordinary passport — across every issuance case it publishes (first-time, renewal, replacing a lost passport, replacing a damaged one):

"The passport applicant must appear before the competent passport officer to take a photo and a fingerprint."

No applicant-supplied photo — uploaded, printed, any size or background — is described anywhere on this portal for this document. Instead, you bring your identity documents (national card, nationality certificate, or residence card where applicable) and a payment card or certified check; the passport officer takes your photo and fingerprint in person, at that same visit. Whatever file an online tool generates for you, there's nowhere in this process to submit it.

epp.iq isn't a third party's summary of this rule, either — appointment booking and application submission happen directly on the portal itself (at appointment.epp.iq), its official Android app carries the Ministry of Interior's own package name, and several of its listed contact channels — including [email protected] and the footer's [email protected] — sit on the Ministry's own moi.gov.iq domain. In other words, this is the government's primary channel for the service, not someone else's description of it.

What to do instead

Based on epp.iq's own published instructions for the ordinary passport:

  • You apply through the Directorate of Passports Affairs — the epp.iq portal handles appointment booking — and attend in person.
  • Bring your identity documents (national card, nationality certificate, or residence card, depending on your situation) plus your payment method.
  • The passport officer photographs you and takes your fingerprint at the counter, as part of that same visit.

There's no photo size, background color, or file format to prepare in advance — no applicant-supplied photo is described anywhere on the portal, so there's nothing for an online tool to produce ahead of your appointment. The epp.iq portal lists instructions for all four ordinary-passport cases — first-time issuance, renewal, replacing a lost passport, and replacing a damaged one — and the in-person photo-and-fingerprint step is the same across all four; only the supporting paperwork you bring differs by case.

Need a photo for a different document?

We don't currently prepare a photo for this document — but IDPhotoBy prepares document photos online for a wide range of other countries' passports and visas: you upload your own photo, and we crop and resize it to the official specification. Browse the countries and documents we support.

Passport application processes can change — always check epp.iq, the Ministry of Interior's official e-passport portal, before you apply.
