Applying for a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) on a PC? You need a photo file of your face. IDPhotoBy turns your photo into a 530 × 690 px JPEG made for the K-ETA photo requirements; you upload it yourself on the official K-ETA website.

K-ETA photo requirements

The Ministry of Justice's K-ETA FAQ sets these photo conditions:

  • in colour, in JPG format, no larger than 20 MB;
  • full face, front view, with your face taking up 75% of the image (the Korean-language FAQ says at least 75%);
  • eyes open and looking straight at the camera;
  • no hats, scarves or sunglasses.

The FAQ also recommends avoiding clothing with bold, colourful patterns. Religious clothing such as a hijab is allowed if your whole face, from forehead to chin, is clearly visible.

The public K-ETA pages set no pixel size, aspect ratio, background colour or rule on how recent the photo must be, so 530 × 690 px and the white background are our choice within the official limits. An older 100 KB, 700 × 700 pixel limit was replaced by the 20 MB rule.

Website or app?

You can apply only at www.k-eta.go.kr or in the K-ETA mobile app; the app adjusts the photo's size and file size automatically. The Government of the Republic of Korea has not delegated K-ETA applications to any agency.

How to make your K-ETA photo online

  1. Upload a front-facing photo; the K-ETA is already selected.
  2. IDPhotoBy crops and resizes it to a 530 × 690 px JPEG under 20 MB and checks the background, without retouching or AI-editing your face.
  3. Add the downloaded file with “Add Photo” in your K-ETA application.

You submit the K-ETA yourself; we can't promise it will be accepted.

K-ETA basics

Visitors who can enter South Korea without a visa apply for the K-ETA online and need approval before boarding their flight or ship. A K-ETA is not a visa. The KRW 10,000 fee is not refunded if the application is denied. Assessment typically takes 72 hours or less, and a K-ETA is valid for 3 years or until your passport expires, if sooner.

Travellers from certain countries and regions are temporarily exempt from the K-ETA until 31 December 2026 (KST); if this applies to you, the K-ETA website shows a pop-up message when you scan your passport information page during the application. Exempt travellers can still apply, for example to skip the arrival card. Details can't be corrected after you submit, so a mistake means a new application. Need a visa instead? See our Korea visa photo page.

Check the official application portal before submitting: www.k-eta.go.kr.
