• No headphones, masks or similar apparel covering your face.
• Proper lighting — neither too dark nor too bright.

This requirement applies whether you're applying from within Nigeria (passport.immigration.gov.ng) or from outside Nigeria (passportintl.immigration.gov.ng) — both NIS application portals state the identical digital photo spec.

Not addressed by NIS's instructions: if you wear glasses, general ID-photo practice is to keep your eyes clearly visible with no glare on the lenses — NIS's own list does not mention glasses, so this is a general tip, not an official rule.

The Nigeria passport photo size is 600×800 pixels — a portrait-format digital photo (3:4 ratio), under 2MB in file size, on a white background. NIS's photo instructions describe only this digital spec — no separate printed size is mentioned anywhere in the requirement.
