Poland's passport photo requirements are set by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA) and published on gov.pl. Check your photo against this list before you apply:

• Colour photo, 35×45 mm — 35 mm wide by 45 mm high (3.5×4.5 cm), taken no earlier than 6 months before you apply.
• Whole head and upper shoulders — the photo shows your whole head, from the top, plus the upper part of the shoulders, with your face taking up 70–80% of the photo. Head size is set from the chin-to-eyes distance against the official MSWiA template (mask).
• White background — plain white, evenly lit, free of shadows and decorative elements, with only you in the frame.
• Face the camera — straight on (en face), head upright and not tilted, no half-profile; the oval of your face is visible.
• Neutral expression, mouth closed — no facial gestures, and your eyebrows fully visible.
• Eyes open and clearly visible — together with the pupils, not covered by hair, looking straight at the lens, with no red-eye.
• No head covering and no dark-tinted glasses — a head covering worn for religious reasons is allowed with a certificate if the whole oval of the face stays visible; dark glasses only with a medical certificate.
• Corrective glasses allowed — if your eyes stay clearly visible, the frames do not cover your eyebrows and the lenses do not reflect light.
• Sharp and natural — no visible pixelation, natural contrast, neutral colours and a natural skin tone.

The Polish passport photo size is 35×45 mm — that is 3.5×4.5 cm, or about 1.38×1.77 inches — a portrait frame with your face at 70–80% of the height.

Poland accepts the passport photo through two different channels, depending on who is applying:

• The wrong background colour. Poland requires a plain white background — not grey or off-white — evenly lit and free of shadows.
• An edited or "beautified" photo. Retouching and filters break the required natural likeness; use a straight, unedited photo.
• Smiling or an open mouth. Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed, looking straight at the camera.
• The wrong size. The photo must be 35×45 mm with your face at 70–80% of the frame.
• Glasses problems. No dark-tinted lenses, and corrective-glasses frames must not cover your eyebrows or reflect light.
• An old photo. It must be taken within the last 6 months and still look like you.
• A tilted head or half-profile. Face the camera straight on, head upright.
