According to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerul Afacerilor Externe), the uniform (Schengen) visa photo you upload with the online eVisa application must meet these requirements. Use this Romania visa photo specifications checklist before you check the official Romania eVisa portal.
- Size 35×45 mm — one colour photograph, 35×45 mm (3.5×4.5 cm), made to Schengen standards.
- Head 70–80% of the photo — your head must take up 70–80% of the height, roughly 31.5–36 mm from chin to crown, with your head and shoulders centred.
- Recent — no more than 6 months old — a photo that still looks like you today.
- Colour, plain light background — a colour photo on a plain, light-coloured background, as the Schengen standard requires; no headwear except for religious reasons, with your full face visible.
- Neutral expression, facing the camera — look straight into the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed, eyes clearly visible.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states the 35×45 mm size and these Schengen-standard rules but publishes no fixed pixel size or dpi, so treat any pixel figure you see elsewhere as guidance, not an official rule.
Because the Romania eVisa is an online application, the photo is a digital file you upload into your visa dossier. The eVisa portal sets file rules for every document you upload:
- Photo size — 35×45 mm, the uniform (Schengen short-stay) visa photo size.
- File size — each uploaded file must not exceed 2 MB. Every photo IDPhotoBy makes stays comfortably under 2 MB.
