One thing to know before you start: the ID card application itself is not something you can submit online. It has to be made in person at a population directorate (nüfus müdürlüğü) inside Turkey, or at a Turkish consulate abroad — this page explains why, and what IDPhotoBy can (and can't) help with.
These requirements come from NVI's own ID card regulation and its provincial directorates' published guidance. Check your photo's dimensions and other details against this list:
- Size 50×60 mm (5×6 cm, about 1.97×2.36 inches) — a fixed print size, not a range. NVI's own guidance explicitly reminds photographers not to cut the biometric photo down to 35×45 mm, a different size used for other documents.
- Plain white background (#ffffff) — no pattern, no shadows.
- Head height (chin to crown) 32–36 mm, ideally around 34 mm — measured from the bottom of your chin to the top of your head.
- Neutral, expressionless face — no smiling, face straight-on to the camera, neck not tilted.
- Eyes clearly open and visible — no colored or dark-tinted glasses that hide your eyes.
- Taken within the last 6 months, showing your current appearance.
- A genuine, high-resolution print — sharp enough for a clear scan; photocopied or computer-duplicated photos are explicitly rejected.
Even, natural lighting works best — avoid strong shadows across your face. The background must stay a single plain white, with nothing else in the frame.
Turkey's ID card process cannot be completed online. NVI's own regulation states that ID card applications are made to population directorates domestically, or to Turkish representations abroad — and that applicants aged 15 and over must apply in person. You can use NVI's web portal or call center to book an appointment (randevu), either at a nüfus müdürlüğü inside Turkey or at a Turkish consulate abroad if you live outside the country, but the appointment itself only reserves a time slot for the required in-person visit — it is not a substitute for showing up.
At that appointment, the biometric photo is a physical print you hand to the application officer. It is scanned into the system and then returned to you — only your fingerprint and hand-vein biometrics are captured on-site, not the photo itself.
