A France visa photo is the ICAO-format ID photo you bring for a French short-stay (Schengen) visa. France-Visas sets the width at 35–40 mm; the TLScontact centres for France in China specify 3.5 × 4.5 cm on plain white. Upload a photo of yourself and IDPhotoBy crops it to 35 × 45 mm, checks the background and gives you a printable sheet.
French visa photo requirements, from France-Visas unless marked otherwise:
- Width: 35–40 mm; France-Visas gives no height. IDPhotoBy uses 35 × 45 mm, the size the TLScontact centres specify.
- Face: 32–36 mm from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head, excluding hair — 70–80% of the photo.
- Recent: no more than 6 months old and a true likeness of you on the day you apply and collect the visa.
- Background: plain and light-coloured. The plain white the TLScontact centres ask for meets this rule too; the ban on white backgrounds applies to French passport and ID-card photos, not to visas.
- Light and colour: uniform lighting with no shadows, flash reflections or red eye; colour-neutral, with natural skin tones.
- Pose: facing the camera square on, head not tilted, eyes open and clearly visible, no hair across them; a neutral expression with the mouth closed; nobody and nothing else in the photo.
- Glasses: no flash reflections or tinted lenses; frames must not cover your eyes.
- Head coverings: only for religious reasons, with your face visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both edges showing.
- Print: high-quality photo paper, high resolution.
Yes. France-Visas lists two recent ID photos in ICAO format among the documents to prepare, and an ICAO-format photo must always be in the file — even when your fingerprints can be reused from a Schengen visa issued less than 59 months ago. Some centres ask for a different number (the TLScontact centres in China list one), so follow your centre's checklist.
You fill in the application form online on France-Visas; no photo upload is described there. At your appointment at the French consulate or its visa application centre, your photo and fingerprints are collected as biometric data: the photo is scanned from your print or taken on the spot — in China, in the centre's biometric booth.
IDPhotoBy works on the framing, not on your face: it crops and resizes your photo to the France visa photo size and checks the background. It does not retouch or beautify your face, and it makes no acceptance promise — the visa service decides.
