Our photos meet international government standards.

A Poland driving licence photo is the colour 35 × 45 mm photo you attach to your application for a Polish driving licence (prawo jazdy). You need it before your driving course starts, and again when you exchange the licence or ask for a duplicate.

Poland driving licence photo requirements

The rules come from the Ministry of Infrastructure and are published on gov.pl:

  • Size and age: one colour photo, 35 × 45 mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm), taken no earlier than 6 months before you file the application.
  • Background: uniform and light, with a clear outline of your head — an overexposed background is not accepted.
  • Quality: sharp, with no visible pixels, natural contrast and a natural skin tone.
  • Framing: your whole head, from the top of your head to your upper shoulders, with your face taking up 70–80% of the photo.
  • Pose: frontal, looking straight ahead, with your eyes open and not covered by hair, and your pupils clearly visible.
  • Expression: natural, with your mouth closed.
  • Head covering and glasses: no head covering, no glasses with dark lenses and nothing else that could make it harder to recognise you.

Two exceptions apply: dark glasses for a congenital or acquired visual impairment, with your disability certificate attached, and a religious head covering that leaves your face fully visible, with a certificate of membership of a religious community registered in Poland. In both cases, your identity document must carry a similar photo.

Where the photo goes: the application and the PKK

You file the application at the county office (starostwo powiatowe) where you live, at the city office if you live in a city with county rights, or at your district office in Warsaw — in person, or by post if you cannot come. The form has one photo box: “Fotografia o wymiarach: 35 x 45 mm”.

Before you start the driving course, the office’s transport department (wydział komunikacji) creates your candidate driver profile — the PKK number — and the profile includes your photo. The legal basis is the Minister of Infrastructure’s regulation of 5 August 2025 (Dz.U. 2025 poz. 1073).

Exchanges, duplicates and international permits

The same photo rules apply when you exchange your licence (after a name change, or when the licence or a category expires), exchange a foreign licence for a Polish one, ask for a duplicate or apply for an international driving permit.

A digital photo, saved on an external data carrier or attached to an electronic application, is also allowed and has its own file rules. This page prepares the printed photo.

How to make your Poland driving licence photo online

  1. Have someone photograph you from the front against a plain, light wall.
  2. Upload it here — the Poland driving licence is already selected.
  3. IDPhotoBy crops it to 35 × 45 mm, with your face at 70–80% of the frame, and checks the background.
  4. Download the printable sheet, print it and attach a photo to your application.

What IDPhotoBy does — and what it doesn’t

IDPhotoBy crops your photo to the driving licence photo size and checks the background; it does not retouch or beautify your face. It makes no acceptance promise: the office decides.

These rules come from the Ministry of Infrastructure, not from the ID card and passport rules set by a different ministry (MSWiA). For an ID card photo, see our Poland ID card photo page.

Check the official application portal before submitting; gov.pl and your local office have the final word.
